George and his wife Chrystal Smith lived and traveled around Southeast Asia for several years. Along with Prof. Constance Wilson they authored the book, "Royalty and Commoners: Essays in Thai Administrative, Economic & Social History."
George Smith has a B.A in History from Whitman College, an M.A in American History from WSU, a Ph.D in Southeast Asian History from Northern Illinois University and an MS in Library Sciences from the University of Illinois.
George and his wife Chrystal sreved in the Peace Corps in Thailand from 1967 to 1969, where they taught high school English in the town of Kalasin. In 1994, they returned to Southeast Asia on an American Library Association fellowship. George trained staff and did planning for the National Library of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. He and Chrystal have traveled to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
George's career has been spent in libraries, museums and archives.
