Administrative/Biographical History
Rebecca Ore, whose real name is Rebecca Brown, was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1948. She was raised in South Carolina and eventually she moved to New York City in 1968, attending Columbia University while she was there. While studying at Columbia she did a great deal of work with the St. Mark Poetry Project. In 1975 she lived in San Francisco for a year, then moved to Virginia, then several other locations, gaining her Masters in English, before finally settling back down in Virginia, writing for ten years. Eventually she moved to Philadelphia, writing, gardening, editing and even serving as a reporter and photographer for a local newspaper. She has currently moved back to Virginia. She owns a Border Terrier named Kit.
