Historical Note: May Mayko Ebihara was a professor emeritus of Lehman College, City University of New York.  Dr. Ebihara was the first American anthropologist to conduct ethnographic research in Cambodia.   She conducted her research in Svay Village in Kandal Province and published a two volume dissertation entitled “Svay, a Khmer Village in Cambodia.”  It provided a detailed picture of village life, with analysis of social structure, kinship, agriculture, religion and political organization.  Her research is among the only available from pre-war Cambodia.
