Historical Note: b. 1971. Elizabeth Bear (Sarah Bear Elizabeth Wishnevsky) is an American Science Fiction and Fantasy novelist, short story and poetry author, primarily of speculative fiction. She was born and raised in Hartford, Conneticut and attended the University of Conneticut. Her first novel Hammered was published in January 2005, followed by Scardown in July and Worldwired in November of the same year. She won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 2005, the Locus Award for Best First Novel (The Jenny Casey trilogy) in 2006, Special Citation of Excellence from the Philip K. Dick Memorial Award for Carnival, and the Hugo Award for Best Short Story for Tideline. Bear is also proud to share her birthdate with Frodo and Bilbo Baggins.
