Collection Historical Note

Emma Bull was born on December 13, 1954.  She attended high school in Ohio, where she was the editor of the school paper, The Indian.  She later attended Beloit College and graduated in 1976.  It was during her time at Beloit that she would meet her future husband, Will Shetterly.  After graduating college she moved to Minneapolis, where she was a member of the band Cats Laughing and a member of the Scribblies.  The Scribblies were a group of Minneapolis writers who practically without exception all became fantasy or science fiction authors of various levels of renown.  After living in Minneapolis, she and her husband moved first to southern California and then after that to Bisbee.  She currently lives in Tucson Arizona.  During this time she was also in a musical duo, the Flash Girls.
