Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Burma Studies Center records are a subgroup within the Academic Centers record group of the University Archives. Northern Illinois University established a Burma Studies Center in 1987. The Burma Center is closely related to Northern's Southeast Asian Studies Center (established in 1963) and Richard Cooler, an NIU art history professor became its first director. Since the Burma Center has only recently begun operations there are few archival records: researchers interested in the Center should review the far more extensive holdings in the Southeast Asian Studies Center and Program Records in the NIU Archives.
