Collection Historical Note

Will Shetterly was born in 1955 in an army hospital.  He was educated in an inner-city public school in Washington, DC and later graduated from Beloit, a private liberal arts college.  Having lived and experienced several economic conditions, Shetterly drew upon these experiences as he wrote his novels.  Will Shetterly is a fantasy and science fiction author best known for his novel, Dogland. For his novel, Elsewhere, he won the Minnesota Book Award for Fantasy & Science Fiction. Both his novels, Elsewhere and Nevernever, and some of his short stories are part of Terri Windling's Borderland series. He also created the first female black superhero who had her own series from a major comic publisher; Captain Confederacy.

He is married to author Emma Bull and the two have created and edited the Liavek shared universe anthologies, which are set in a world inspired by the Arabian nights.  Will Shetterly currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
