Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Caroline Stevermer Papers consists of printed (paper-based) and handwritten manuscripts for her novel When the King Comes Home, along with a small amount of correspondence related to those materials. The collection is divided into series based upon format. Series I consists of novels, and Series II consists of correspondence. Series III contains miscellaneous material. The majority of materials are organized within their series based upon original date of publication.

Collection Historical Note

Caroline Stevermer was born in 1955 and grew up in Southeastern Minnesota on a dairy farm. She has been writing ever since she was a little girl. She is best known for writing young adult fantasy novels and short stories. She attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania and earned her B.A. in the history of art. Her 1st published book (by ACE) was "The Alchemist: Death of Borgia" in 1980. She has also co-authored three books with Patricia C. Wrede. She has a fondness for museums, libraries, the paintings of Nicholas Hillard, and the writings of Mark Twain.
