Scope and Contents of the Materials

The DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport Advisory Board collection consists of board meeting notes, official minutes, agendas, financial records, airport expansion impact studies, official memorandums from various city offices, airplane hanger expansion efforts, DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport and general aviation newspaper articles all documenting the changes to the Airport from the late 1970s until 2010.

Collection Historical Note

The DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport Advisory Board was created to advise the city of DeKalb on Airport related activities and the implementation of the Airport Master Plan. The Airport opened in April 1944 and by the early1980s began to implement the Airport Master Plan; that was met with opposition from the neighboring town of Cortland, Illinois. The plan’s execution continued and due to the efforts of the Airport Advisory Board, the DeKalb Taylor Airport is now 920 acres with over 60 aircrafts based there.
