Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Joyce Holmberg Papers date from 1982 to 2002. The records include documents, news articles, copies of Senate bills, and photographs.  Of special interest are the information on the legislation sponsored by Holmberg  and her radio commentaries for WNIU, a radio station at Northern Illinois University.

Collection Historical Note

Joyce Holmberg retired in January of 1993 from the Illinois Senate after ten years of representing the Rockford area.  As chairman of the Senate Higher education Committee and Local Government Committee, she was regarded as one of the General Assembly’s authorities on education.  With a master’s degree in counseling psychology, she also served as a teacher, parent educator, and administrator in the Rockford Public Schools.
