Scope and Contents of the Materials

The records of the Taylor Family Genealogy Papers contain the research materials on the  family’s genealogy compiled by Ethel L. Taylor, including items such as birth certificates, marriage licences, death certificates, obituaries, newspaper clippings, and genealogy society newsletters.  She spent decades researching her family’s history and her research dates from 1969 to 2004.  Her research results include ancestors dating to the 1700s and copies of records from several states in the U.S., England, India, and Salt Lake City.

Collection Historical Note

Ethel L. Taylor was born on February 23, 1922 in DeKalb to parents Harry D. and Gladys D. Horton and she died on August 5, 2007.  She graduated from the DeKalb Township High School in 1940 and entered the Northern Illinois State Teachers College.  She married Willard Rue “Pete” Taylor on December 28, 1950 and managed a restaurant at the DeKalb/Taylor Airport.  Additionally, she learned how to fly multiple engine planes and taught at a Montessori School where children knew her as “ET.”  A son,“Petie,” preceded her in death.
