Contained in boxes 7, 8, and 9 are barracks cards, membership applications, and dues listing for the barracks and auxiliary.
Collection Historical Note
The Veterans of World War I was organized in 1949 by twelve veterans in Cleveland, Ohio. The Department of Illinois veterans organized on August 15, 1954. The Veterans of World War I organization was given a congressional charter from the 85th Congress of the United States in 1958. The Veterans of World War I, Greater Rockford Barracks No. 48 and Ladies Auxiliary, as with all barracks and auxiliaries of the organization, were established to coordinate these veterans and their relatives for their mutual benefit, pleasure and amusement; giving them the opportunity and means of personal contact with each other in order to keep alive friendships and memories of World War I. The veterans work for the pensions in adequate amounts and for the increase in pension benefits, to secure hospitalization and out patient treatment, and to fight for the upholding of the Constitution and the national security.
