The College of Education records date from 1904 to the present.
Administrative/Biographical History
The creation of the College of Education in 1959 was part of the University-wide reorganization which replaced the division system with colleges. In that year the College consisted of the Departments of Education, Nursing Education, Outdoor Teacher Education, Physical Education for Men, and Physical Education for Women. The Department of Education was sub-divided into departments in 1966 and Nursing Education was transferred to the College of Professional Studies in 1974.
Reorganization of the College in 1978 resulted in the creation of four departments: Curriculum and Instruction, Learning and Development, Leadership and Educational Policy Studies, and Physical Education. Effective July 1, 1999 the College of Education reorganized into seven departments: Counseling, Adult and Health Education; Educational and Psychological Foundations; Educational Technology, Research and Assessment; Kinesiology and Physical Education; Leadership in Educational and Sports Organizations; Literacy, Intercultural and Language Education; and Teacher Education.
