Administrative/Biographical History
The Rockford Harmony Singing Society organized November 23, 1923 to promote and foster songs of American and Scandinavian folk-lore and to associate with the National Organization of Norwegian Singers and the Norwegian Midwest Singers Association. The Society also provided monetary support for sick or unemployed members. Modern welfare benefits, however, have eliminated the need for this provision. Today, the Society is primarily a vehicle for social interaction and as a supporting base for a chorus. Annually, the chorus participates in a summerfest where all the Norwegian groups sing in massed chorus.
