Administrative/Biographical History
John Reed and Hiram Delong’s Pharmacy was located in DeKalb, Illinois. As a combined dry goods store-pharmacy, Reed and Delong sold a variety of merchandise including drugs, oils and paints, dye stuffs, salted meat, and prescriptions. In September 1879, the Pharmacy moved from an unknown location in DeKalb to new quarters in Corking’s Block, DeKalb. The partnership lasted until 1887 when Reed took over the business. Continuing to operate the drygoods pharmacy alone, Reed then moved to the Bee Hive Block (Third and Main), DeKalb. During these years the business was known under various names including Reed’s Pharmacy and the Palace Drug Store, each under the proprietorship of John Reed.
