Administrative/Biographical History
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society was formed in May of 1929 in Austin, Texas. The Alpha Chapter was established on November 23, 1935 to serve DeKalb and Ogle Counties. The organization started with twelve charter members but the membership increased over the years and by 1965 the Alpha Chapter of DeKalb had reached ninety members, by the early 1990s 100 members, and by 2006 had decreased to ninety members. The society consists of women educators who unite to support legislation in the interests of education and women educators, offer support to prospective women in the field of education, and to inform the members of current issues so they can participate in a world society. The Alpha Chapter also worked over the years with other chapters as well as the International Society to reach out to other women educators to improve the overall education within the school systems in the local areas.
