Administrative/Biographical History
Jack Schaffer served as a sergeant of the United States Army. He attended Northern Illinois University and received a bachelors in business management. While attending Northern Schaffer founded the Northern Illinois University Young Republicans. Elected in 1968, Schaffer served as Auditor of McHenry County. He was elected as a Illinois state senator of the 33rd district in 1973 and served until 1993. While in Congress Schaffer served on many committees such as Pensions and Personnel Committee, Public Health, Welfare, and Corrections Committee, Senate Finance Committee, and Illinois Toll Highway Advisory Committee. After concluding his run in the Senate, he was appointed Commissioner of the Illinois Office of Savings and Residential Finance, then became Commissioner of the Illinois Office of Banks and Real Estate. The commissioner oversees state-chartered savings banks and savings and loan institutions, as well as the residential mortgage banking industry. Schaffer co-owns two Crystal Lake businesses, Liberty Outdoor Advertising and Liberty Self Storage.
