Arrangement
The collection is divided into three series: research, publications, and audiovisual and includes publications, photographs, maps, timetables, CDs, VHS tapes and a DVD. The folders in each series are arranged alphabetically and the research is arranged chronologically within the folders.
Administrative/Biographical History
David J. Fiore, Sr. was employed in the transportation department at Nalco Company, Naperville, Illinois until his retirement in 2006 after 29 years with the company. His interest in railroad history came out of his involvement with railroads shipping chemicals in tank cars across the United States, and his interest in railroad history is shared by his oldest son, a locomotive engineer with Canadian Pacific. He is a member of the Chicago and North Western Historical Society and author of several articles on the Chicago Great Western published in the society’s journal, North Western Lines, as well as Green Diamond, First and Fastest, and other similar magazines and journals. He is the author of The Chicago Great Western Railway, which was published by Arcadia as part of their “Images of Rail” series in 2006. His main area of research are the Chicago Great Western, the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin, and other Northwestern railroads. As of February 2008, Fiore has started his own business as a consultant.
