Administrative/Biographical History
The Jacob Haish Memorial Hospital Corporation was established in 1952. Haish stated in his will that his estate be used for the building of a library, building of a hospital, and to provide healthcare to those in DeKalb and surrounding areas who could not afford it. DeKalb Public Hospital received funding from the corporation from 1961 until 1968. That money was returned to the corporation after DeKalb Public Hospital’s closure in 1975. The rest of Jacob Haish’s Estate went towards the building of a new Emergency Room at Kishwakee Community Hospital in 2006.
