Administrative/Biographical History
The DeKalb County Highway System was established in 1914. The first experimental cement highway was a segment laid near Malta. In 1920, DeKalb County had its first completely paved road with the finishing of Lincoln highway. Today, the DeKalb County Highway Department maintains 190 miles of bituminous-paved highways and 45 bridge structures on the county road system. These interconnect with over 800 miles of township roads and 141 township bridges of the 19 townships.
