DeKalb Township Records, 1851-1939 | Northern Illinois University

In 1849 DeKalb County voters chose to organize the county into thirteen townships and selected Orange as the name for the township in which the village of DeKalb was located.  County supervisors changed the name to DeKalb Township in 1850 because a township in another Illinois county had already been named Orange.  In that same year township voters elected Thomas R. Hopkins as first supervisor.
