Administrative/Biographical History
Ministers in charge of a congregation in the greater Sterling-Rock Falls area and executives of the YMCA and YWCA organized the Sterling Rock Falls Ministerial Association in the late 1940’s as the Council of Churches. The group’s mission was to develop greater fellowship among Christian ministers, to study the common concerns and tasks of Christian ministers, and to inspire and further the cooperative work of churches. Several projects completed by the Association included doing a religious survey of the community, publishing a directory of all churches to he distributed by the local Welcome Wagon, cooperating with the Y.M.C.A. in Sunday Evening Club services, actively working for anti-liquor ordinances, and each year cooperating in a study project of varying topics. The Association continues to insure local church cooperation today.
