Records Relating to Registration and Records | Northern Illinois University
Registrar duties were first performed by a clerk in the president’s office. In 1924 these activities were shared by a bookkeeper and the president’s secretary. It wasn’t until 1928 that the official title of Registrar was given to the secretary. A separate Office of the Registrar was not created until 1939. In 1971, the Registrar’s Office merged with the Admissions Office to form the Registration and Records Office. This collection contains class schedules, commencement programs, lists of degrees awarded, and analytical studies of the student population. Also contained here are student records which are restricted.
