Records Relating to Health and Human Sciences C... | Northern Illinois University

In 1973, the Nursing School, the newly created School of Allied Health Professions, the Communicative Disorders Department, and the Library Science Department, united to form the College of Professional Studies.  Within the college, the School of Allied Health Professions brought together the Community Mental Health, Physical Therapy, and Medical Technology programs.  Also included in this college is the Department of Human and Family Resources (formerly Home Economics) which came from the dissolved College of Fine and Applied Arts, and the NIU ROTC Program.  The Department of Industry and Technology belonged to this college from 1974 until it became the core department for the new College of Engineering in 1985.  In 1992 the Library and Information Studies Program was phased out, and in 1995 the name of the college was changed to Health and Human Sciences. Due to its recent formation there are few college level records in this collection, but it does contain program proposals and college curriculum committee minutes, which are added regularly.  Department level records are more extensive since some of the departments pre-date the college.  These records include department reports, committee files and correspondence.
